LifeServe Blood Center Headquarters

Johnston, IA

The LifeServe Blood Center Headquarters in Johnston, Iowa is a state-of-the-art blood donation center and healthcare facility designed to expand access to life-saving resources for more than 170 hospitals across the Midwest. Completed in 2024, the 56,000-square-foot facility brings together a modern donor center, 24/7 blood testing laboratory, blood processing and operations spaces, and flexible office and collaboration areas under one roof.

The project prioritizes sustainability and efficiency. A geothermal HVAC system, laboratory airflow control systems, and energy-efficient design strategies reduce environmental impact and operational costs. For mission-critical reliability, the building includes an engine generator, overcurrent protection systems, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) infrastructure, ensuring blood processing and storage remain protected even during power outages.

Beyond its technical strengths, the Johnston headquarters enhances the donor experience with welcoming public spaces, while staff benefit from adaptable offices and collaboration areas that promote teamwork and organizational growth. Designed to strengthen LifeServe’s visibility and community impact, the new headquarters reflects the organization’s commitment to sustainable building practices, resilient healthcare design, and its mission to save lives through blood donation and processing.
