The new Southeast Polk Middle School serves as a dedicated facility for sixth and seventh grade students within the Southeast Polk Community School District. The classroom wings feature a state-of-the-art hydronic chilled beam system integrated with dedicated outside air systems and energy recovery units located on penthouses, ensuring optimal air quality and efficient thermal comfort. The hydronic system is powered by high-efficiency condensing natural gas boilers and an outdoor air-cooled chiller for sustainable heating and cooling solutions.
The gymnasium is equipped with a dedicated air handling unit capable of accommodating large sporting and community events, while the administrative wing, commons area, music, and physical education spaces are served by air handling units with hydronic VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes, providing tailored thermal control. Centralized ventilation for both the gymnasium and other areas is delivered via an energy recovery unit, maximizing energy efficiency and maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.
Lighting within the building is entirely LED-based, controlled by advanced digital systems to enhance energy efficiency and user comfort. Classrooms are outfitted with tunable white LED fixtures, improving visual comfort and supporting interactive learning experiences. Special education spaces feature RGB LED lighting to foster a positive, adaptive learning atmosphere for students throughout the day.
This innovative design and advanced systems provide a modern, comfortable, and efficient learning environment that enhances both student and staff well-being.
